Sept. 1873 119 1873 Wilton, Maine. Sept. 6 Clear a lovely day. We took the boat off to the Int'l in the morning & around at the District at 2 P.M. Strode across the carry on the old horn with the "truck board" battling behind and was pretty well brand up by the time I got there. In the evening went down to the river and took a 2 pound fish. Bassins caught five, on a 4 pounder Sunday Sept. 7 Cloudy with E. wind. After breakfast Dan & I started up the lake and rowed as far as the entrance to Mollychuckinawak. Saw a Piccus arthens & shot a Spevarius & a kingfisher, with my rifle. Got back to camp by 5 P.M. I fished a little in the run but without success. " 8 Rained hard last night but cleared up at sunrise. Fished at intervals during the day and gradually towards sunset but did not take a trout, and only one or two were caught by the others. The moon on the lake this evening was very fine, the mountains to the East lighting up with a changing massion of the most beautiful colors. Saw a Bh. fulgida the only swallow for a week or more & undercloudy the last " 9 Clear a fine day. Ron at 5 o'clock and went down to the river where I took three fish from backfort, all under a pound. During the morning caught two more. After dinner we packed up and bidding good bye to all
