At the Megalloway Bridge an much later apparently than here; thus I heard Hordus pallasi there Aug. 19 v Z. albrechtsi sang morning & evening. The young of Chay. joining an ours all on wing; they are forming into large flocks; I think they must breed or the average about a week in advance of Ch. tristis as a few young of that species are beginning to appear. I frequently see offsprings fishing about; they have a note here I mean heard before a short mellow whistle reminding me of the twittering of Passer palus. Also heard the unmistakable cry of the Golden Duck Hawk a day or two since on the woods East of here. Harris Hudson is quite as addicted on C. viris as Patricifallus Aug. 24 Cloudy very cool & windy. Spent most of the day in the office talking with Mr. Sampson who arrived last night v will join his friend Gallatery at the dam to morrow. After supper took my boat & caught two half lb. trout near the Stambold landing 11 25 Clear, cool & a lovely day typical of Sept or Oct. rather than the present month. After breakfast rode pins to the river & started up in the skiff. Took 8 or 9 Barrell birds when by mistake firing a heavy duck charge, that shot pretty hard struck three on onboard into the very gun in hand
