112 Aug: 1873 1873 Upton, Maine. Aug. 21 Cloudy & rained. I spent most of the day around the farm having another right attack of chile. " 22 Cloudy & Rainy. Spent the day around the farm not feeling well " 23 Closed up this morning. Barto & Mr. Pullston left for the Mid.dawn this morning. After breakfast Mr. Godwin & I started up C. River & he paddled me up about 2 miles. I shot them wood ducks in two shots all on the water, & a Sol Sandp. flying. The A. Gansa are I think all adult's although in nearly the plumage of the young s. Saw large numbers of small birds & was lucky enough to get a My. Passerine O.J. in 2nd plumage; whether this bird was found in the vicinity or not must be I carry a matter of conjecture but others inclined to think that it was as I have seen no witness as yet of any Southward migration influx of small birds from the North, although many of the birds have evidently left here. Birds have almost entirely stopped singing now. Don. Albright is hard but Aldon & the occasionally Sandp. & Osier Olive, & Solitarys! Churdick's Institute still keep up this "booming" & on still nights I see them out on the lake in large flocks. Bly. Solitaries & Great Aleger are just as loud as they can be in
