1873 July 17 Drew back a mile or two I tried for Woodcock. got up one I fired at him five times without effect. Shot a full grown Partridge B. Dean came last night to pass Sunday. 1873. July 11 July 17 It was a fright to give up my journal last year on account of much trouble with my eyes and the only notes up to this date will be found in my pocket diaries for 1872 & 1873. A general resume of events since last Sept is as follows. Spent the first three weeks of Sept. at Moon river in Canoe with Messrs J. B- C. Y. & W.H. Prittall of Cambridge & H. O. Foster of Boston & Guides H. & C. Adams. Had fine duck shooting & good fishing but shunned only from six or six birds. In Oct. spent four & in Nov. then days on "the Cape" quail shooting with J.C. Melvin I had fair shot. Shot much every day through the Autumn around C.Y held fine Shooting.
