bottom, but I obtained Cryptopodia fer
micata and some other additions to
my collection, and finding a spec
of soft mud mixed with small pebbles,
on the Kowloon side of the bay, I got
with the Daedse an Aulophioniaea and
several other interesting worms. On
my return I found that the ship
had been removed to another ancho-
rage, off the East end of the town,
and near where the Porpoise is
undergoing extensive repairs.
We have an addition to our mess
in Mr Kelly of the Porpoise who takes
the place of Mr. Munroe, (transferred
to the S.D.)
25th Very rainy. I went ashore however, in
search of amusement, but soon came
off disgusted and thoroughly convinced of
the folly of seeking pleasure in the abs-
tract. Pleasure is like a coquette; take no
notice of her and go on with your investiga-
tions, and she will come to you begging, but
run after her and she sets herself up;
some begins to flirt and ends in laughing
at you in your disappointment.
