Eth. + Sifon who had mumps. It was pretty hard to have to return but it turned out for the best. Monday February 23, 1914 Hal & I walked practically all of the way back, he was held up a day at Paper Harbor by the wind but he got back by the 2:30. I drove a good deal of the way to Sifon as he was still pretty weak. We saw the sun for the first time in 117 days at Paper Harbor on the 19th. Tuesday Feb. 24, 1914. Joe is going to give teams to take me the mile start again as soon as the crew of men return from the south where they are hunting walrus - feeding the dogs for the long trip. We are busy again remodeling our sledge room & preparing for a final trial that must succeed. It is so late now that we can not delay or it will be impossible to do the work on the Polar Sea. I am making dog harness & getting my strength in shape for the trip.
