Monday January 5-1914 I have been building the sismograph piece in the cellar. I am very anxious to get this instrument ready to go before we leave. I cannot secure any wood so I have no shelves. It was to be gotten at the museum or else the foliage must last, I may be able to make some out of some of our available material. I have the good luck to have two well-built women serving on my clothing for the dry trip. Good gear means as much that I am making every effort to have every stitch of the best. Tuesday January 6-1914 We really cleaned things up pretty well today. Mrs. is away and most of the visitors have left for the time being, which gives us a chance to straighten out the awful mess which is the inevitable result of a large crowd. I have been taking my service revolver with me on my walks. I have been practicing with it and might find a rifle in case a hungry bear turned up. There are no seals now and one of the 'mammoth' whales would prove a dangerous enemy. I saw two beautiful new pairs of kammies. I have had them on today walking out the museum.
