242 Joy -- Monday January 4, 1915. Clear with N E wind. - 20° I returned to the island this afternoon, after feeding the dog I went over and built another igloo near the big one. It also returned bringing mail. (Peter j [illegible] ?) Tuesday January 5, 1915. Clear wind N E wind. I worked my dogs until nearly 4 o'clock this morning. Jerome came out about ten. When I turned in the temperature was 27° below zero. There was very little wind and I had her quite comfortable working in a blanket shirt and very thin wool proof over my undershirt. I got up at 3:00 o'clock after a good 8 hours sleep. Jerome started the engine while I had my breakfast. This mail was left at Terroval in August & brought up by a missionary in December. There were letters for Hal, Tank & T&h one apiece. The last (latest) was dated June 12, Peter and work that France and Germany were at war. I believe this very possible but can scarcely credit his other news about our war with Japan and the alliance of England & Russia against us. The moon is going and the darkness is closing in again
