-- FOREVER 235 Tuesday December 27, 1914. Clear with high NE wind - 12° The wind seemed to have discovered that I was trying to do some work outside. When I went out this morning with the idea of finishing my igloo I was nearly swept off the ice-foot by the blast that came out of the Nord. I got Jerome to come over and hand me some snow blocks. I should have finished easily but I am building rather a large igloo with high walls and when I held up a heavy block the wind would nearly blow me own. I feel sometimes as tho I should like to have pick-axto when I am working alone on the snow house, for instance, the only snow I can find comes from a small drift near an ice berg. The tide lifted the ice with the result that cracks run through the drift in all directions. What blocks I am able to get out whole are very fragile and often break up just as I am settling them in to place. I was pretty tired this evening and lay down after dinner with the intention of taking a little nap. I can never ever saying some thing to Jerome but when I finally awoke it was nearly four o'clock this morning. I managed to rouse out and wash the dishes. We have a small hunk of fruit cake left over from Christ mes. I ate a piece of this stuff and turned in again. Never before have I met such terrible adventures as when I got to sleep.
