Tonight the Storm seems finally to have thrown itself out, the moon has come out full and bright making the night brighter than our shady twilight x There is no wind, which is a hard warning before the NE demons drive down the storm tomorrow.
Our house is so warm, with the snows around it, that we have burned very little coal today. I tried to perfunate (as it were) the corners at the back of the house by throwing water on it - if I could get a good layer of ice above the snows the NE winds would not be so apt to wear it away.
I walked up the Fiord this afternoon enjoying one of the few calm spells we ever have. On my return I met Hal near the Island. He consented to eat dinner with us and we treated him to some of the ham he so kindly boiled for us x Company in our lonely little house adds a great deal of cheerfulness x So usual me put out all lights and took a short nap after dinner x This is a very nice custom, (I think - indolente that I am)
For we open the Storm door and the light plays on our ceiling in a peculiar way that seems to soothe the irritation of being alive -- and sometimes just living is pretty wretched x But, be that as it may,
we are not dead yet by some ways -
