6 Boston Saturday July 5 1913 (cont'd. by mistake) Clear and hot. Visitors commenced to arrive long before permican and other expected equipment. During day loaded 14,000 lbs permican, stores, waterproof covering for roof of house up - rigths for sledges and various small items. In the afternoon the decks were swarming with various friends. Only three with cards from home were allowed aboard. At 4 o'clock we were all ready to sail with the pilot on the bridge but some of our men had gone astray and those remaining found it dif- ficult to raise them alone. At 4:30 we backed out into the stream and proceeded down to the lower bay where we anchored for the night. About twenty friends returned to Boston on a tug. In the evening the Captain brought back all but one man. They were very drunk and one fell overboard coming over the rail. We could find the he was hardly worth it.
