N.Y. to Boston. 5 Friday July 4 - 1913. Clear & pleasant with light air SE by Y. Ideal weather continued steaming through inside route passing out through Collock Rip about 8 a.m. Shortly air along the Cape and towards Boston in the Bay. Passed up Boston Pilot about 4m p.m. and continued on up the Bay. We were met by several of Mac's friends in different boats and the harbor craft sailed in most cases. By 61/2 o'clock we were tied up to the United Fruit Company's dock at the foot of State Street. All of the Expedition went ashore to visit friends. Saturday July 5. Boiling hot day. Ship so crowded that we had quite difficulty in loading our 14,000 lbs. of dry goods and many miscellaneous ship's material etc. MacMillan was photographed in every conceivable pose while demonstrating his equipment of sledges, spring yards etc. We expected to sail at 7 o'clock but this was not work steam until 43/4. We steamed down with our friends and one engineer, the rest of the crew having tea ashore. We anchored in the Lower Harbor of The Cape went back after the men bringing them up at midnight.
