and got Panikpa, his wife, Jimmy, & Buster Green and I helped them break camp and move aboard ship. Sprigg Patterson & Happy went with Panikpa in whaleboat to get Stookashu - had long row- and returned late for supper. "Buster" went Piblokt when whistle blew. Fog prevented our sailing. August 17th Sunday. Arrive Saunders Island, early morning Take Stookashu's dogs aboard and sail for Kongit- lukewak. See polar bear on beach en-route. Stop ship & all expedition members, Sprigg, Patterson and "Happy" Brooke, go over in whale-boat after him. Landed, surrounded, and Sprigg shot him just as he took to water. Brought him aboard. Panikpa skinned him. Weighed about 600 lbs. Enter Duglefield Gulf. pretty scenery. Pass Redcliff - Beary's old place - shortly afterwards see 3 walrus on pan of ice: went after them in whaleboat Sprigg got one, wounded other two. August 18th - Monday Zeldotahony Arrived Kongitlukewak about 12-30 A.M. Hoisted out Mac's boat and Sprigg. got go with Murphy up bay after some eskimos. Lumbl with Spriggs Boat. Shoot at school of white whales, got returned about noon with the eskimeses. Loaded two families with dogs and belongings. Sailed for "Perky" twelve thirty p.m. Arrived Perky.
