[illegible] [illegible] September 19, 1938. The day after getting up at dawn to make a second attempt on the summit. The weather was clear but the temperature had dropped considerably overnight. We were very cold and tired. We reached the top of the peak about noon. There were no signs of life or movement anywhere. It seemed as though we had been alone all day. We descended slowly, carefully avoiding loose rocks and snowdrifts. By evening we were back at camp again, exhausted but satisfied with our accomplishment.
