542 I learned from Green to-day that Captain Corner had given the double handed snow knife to Mac with injunctions to be sure to give it to me because he had made it for me and had inadvertently taken it with him to North Star Bay. When Mac was here he said nothing to me about the knife, but I saw it on his kammatic when I went out to see him off. I remarked that that had been made for me. Mac replied "Captain Corner gave it to me, but you can have it if you want it because it may be use - ful on the trail". I felt rather sore against the captain but Fitzhugh's story has straightened matters out at Mac's cost. Mac gave Fitz written orders to go southward under my command in my party -
