Conditions of Cape York were not favorable for walrus polar bear hunting and besides the old man wanted to come north, hence Ekblaw and Mene did not stay at Cape York as long as they expected to when they left the ship. Langray and I walked out nearly to the little island on the south side of the bay and back - a seven mile trip. The evening was calm and brilliant, perfect for a walk except that my kooltah was too warm for the weather of -17° and no wind. I wore the gar- ment, because Peter gave it to me and he was here, but I was in full perspiration long before we reached the ship on our return from our walk.
