1897 Mar. 7 ended a series of stormy skells, snow at night, thursday day, taking it off. I finally warmed up with a warm rain glass 46" rapidly growing cooler. Mar 8 the glass stood at 10 above, but bud blue birds were here as I had prophesied. A warm day in the middle of the day, but was cold at night again Mar 9 (Town Meeting) it was quite lovely, but warm. Red- Wings arrived. Bluebirds plenty. Mar 12 Robin red breast ar- rived, I heard one on Jan. 1st but think this is a new arrival. Melospiza fasciata, the "Spotted singing Sparrow" ground sparrow, is singing. It is somewhat overcast and will probably rain. The birds love such spring days. Junco
