August 7. Up early - in spite of turning promises late last night, everything still damp. By noon had everything exposed to air, laid flat on the heater, or actually dried. Max Brewer wanted to take me for a couple of hours to a dune area near the Columbia River Delta; but with wet specimens already on hand and with departure scheduled for tomorrow, I had to refuse - one of the first times! Went to lab after dinner & got last wet material laid out on heater for the night. Cliff Alderfer in - he was laid up with a terrible cold since return from Bemis Island. Letter to Susan Dukhane on Graham's death.
