August 2. Up at 6:45, fixed coffee & out soon after 7:00, before rest of camp were stirring. Collecting good, although weather much cooler - 30° during night, Bill Maher reported. Fun for lunch just after 12:00 because, although weather would too good, it showed no signs of improving and Bob Murphy wanted to get our reconnaissance flight over. Off at 1:30, but to get an extra bit of runway for take-off on gravel beach, pilot got plane too close to river & wheels went through gravel, up to brake, they and power of engines. So we dug wheels out, but- left wheel in deeper & tended
