July 18. Spent whole day getting specimens dry, still had to leave 2 presses on heater overnight. Collecting in rain made this the wettest lot of material in a long time. Had long letter from Pierre Dammerean on several topics & answered it. Went to store at noon & bought a couple of packages of air- mail envelopes - a stork disappeared from the lab while we were at Noluck Lake. The strong east winds we had at Noluck blew the ice out to sea - very early in the season. Had long talk with Dave Mullen about Banks I. He is pessimistic about morses.
