Husted, Dayle N. 1964 53 October 18--The sky was cloudy with almost constant rain until about 1500. The sea was rough with 10-14 foot swells. This morning many Mottled Petrels were seen. In the high wind they really moved along. Their arcs were very high. Leach's Storm Petrels were seen throughout the day. Most of them were headed generally in a southern direction along with the Mottled Petrels. Several Frigates were seen hanging around today. In the high wind they didn't flop much. This afternoon Warren saw another Herald's Petrel. The few Sooty Shearwaters that were seen were leading south as usual. October 19--The sky was partly cloudy all day. The sea was rough with swells up to 23 feet high. Few birds were seen today until we made the turn going south. A small traveling flock composed of Fairy Tern, Wedgetails, Juan Fernandez Petrel, Dark-rumped Petrel and Cook's were seen. Wedgetails were seen today for the first time in quite a while. Several Frigates were again seen. This afternoon a Booby sp. was seen by Warren, he also saw an all dark Storm Petrel. Because of the high seas the birds were difficult to see and follow in many cases. Very few Sooty Shearwaters were seen.
