Pray, Montana Sept. 26, 1975 A group of about 24 of us moved from Mammoth & Chies 1st Springs resort near Pray, about 25 miles south of Livingston. Included were Pat Reed, Gardner Grant, Frank Richardson, Ernie Schwiebert, Pete an Betty van Geytenbeek, etc. After checking in, most of us set out for the DeLug Ranch about 8 mi. N. of here on highway 89, where there are a series of spring creeks at grade. Mr. DeLug charges fishermen $25 a day to fish there, and he encourages catch and release. Woody and I fished with Pat, just on a river below the house, later upstream a mile or so. I took one nice rainbow of about 17" on a #18 nymph but didn't get any other good fish - some small rainbows. Schwiebert of course had a magnificent day, catching good fish all day, he claims nearly all on very small dry flies (#20 and 22). A rain squall hit us about 6 PM and there was a flurry of rising fish just before the rain began. I hooked one good brownie but straightened the hook (a #20 yellow nymph). But it was not at cold to fish after the rain. Those other guests didn't do much. Had a magnificent dinner at the Chies dining room, with lots of drinks and too much red wine.
