Journal Feb 6. McKan. Why do storm petrels come in twos? I've got a good idea why. But what puzzles me is how they can be so separate yet be together. Doesn't make much sense so far does it? Many times at sea I see a storm petrel and then 3 or 4 min later see another one. These birds are always far out of sight of each other. Somehow I think the they know where the other of the pair is. These may be the only storm petrels seen that day or the same thing may happen a couple of hours later. On the shearwater in the marshalla trip two came aboard the same night only not at the same time. (The only stormpetrels that came aboard the whole two months) This trip off howland Two came aboard the same night at different times again. What's going on??? Saw a Phoenix Island petrel from the rubber boat as we left Baker. No came within 1500 feet of the island. 31 Hawaiian Nuthies 6 Wandering tattler 1 Bulwars pat. / Roddy turn stone /garden plover 27 WT Sheara hers 1000 Sooty terns 57. UTS petrels 2 BT.
