We search and call for petrels and I disturb a golden plover at
3200 as I came down in dark. We make a fire and eat at shelter, then
descent stopping after to listen and call. Couldn't stay up there without
antifreeze tonight. We decide to stop by road near Po [illegible] Game sta
to visit them in morning, but unfortunately we're on military reservation
and at a quarter after midnight a John Wayne-type lieutenant and two
body guards give us a jeep escort off their land. We also have a
brief altercation with a cow over right-of-way, but finally sack out
again out of sight of the highway in low country.
Noted goat hung above 12,500 and a skull lower today. horses
sometimes used to climb the mountains.
Apr 1 24--So we drive south at 0600 when the pheasants wake us to
Puu Waawaa when the Dillingham Ranch is said to be outpost of the
