St. Vincent.
30 May, 1891.
There along the coast was pretty, but the weather was very hot and as the Captain kept the course close into shore shutting off the breeze we did not get much breeze. The formation of St Vincent is much like that of Dominica - from the central mountain chain ridges descend broad and usually and somewhat abruptly at the sea thus shutting off the valleys from each other and necessitating the frequent diverting of the coast road towards the interior soon to surpass the obstacle created by the dividing ridge which shuts off one valley from its neighbour. I found the road is close by the sea beach when it comes up valley also sometimes it leaves for several miles away from the coast and climbs up to considerable some look above the sea level. The gardens of the island is well scenery continuing along the leeward shore for bare cliff running them from the sea to the height of several hundred feet in places and within fences are seen in places the remains that show every student.

The house is small and it is far much smaller until Mrs D measured it by adding two rooms under gallery. It is situated at the mouth of a gap between high hills and she it is shut out from the trade winds, and benefited to the full blaze of the afternoon sun. She is then hot - very hot in the after noon but on the northern side there was not until late in the morning - the early part of the day is cool. There is a pretty little garden kept up by the older Miss Branch - two nice gets an asphodel in her trap, and all around she there is an arrest of the brightest green of which is very refresh to the eye. There hillside only seen small patches of coconut in the other islands and it seems curious here to see hundreds of one of the plants stretching for acres across the valley and up the hill sides. The cultivation of cannabie was going well, and much more
