At 4 P.M., we passed one
of the Nicolas Island,
a small mountain, in
in shape like St. Paul's
having a fleecy cloud
blowing on the summit.
[27] Weather fine & sea with
only a short ship! The vessel
altogether constantly listed
from side to side going
any motion roll or pitch
[28] This morning we
passed a lone grayish rock
rising some 10 feet out of
the sea. But the Peruvian
coast was not visible.
There were flocky dark steams,
& somewhat reddish birds
streaming about the dull
gray waters near the rock.
