do not keep dogs Suppose
only to the climate being unsuited
or damage by leopards.
At the farm everything seems
too many dogs but the natives on
the road as well as in the market
had none with them. The only
crop cultivated here is tobacco. The
rice fields all show neglect.
On my way back from the
village I witnessed an unusual
animal hunt. In the meadow
I saw a brown mongoose which
had evidently swallowed two
dangerous animals about only
slowly expel it. When we
came on the scene the mouse
retreated hastily into the sand
glass but some of the fellows
not going around as in slow
bounds. The day was cloudy
this scene took place at
10:30 A.M. on a low rice terrace
or field of low terraces. At dusk
I shot a rat near the creek
opposite the village. It was
very small and had an absolutely
different from
any other species I know.
