budding blossoms we continued on our way thru the forest over a very wet slippery clay road which ran well up on the side of the valley & went away from the level valley border to the Nam-lung river. The forest here has little of the appearance of that of Peru with Amazon bed-makers lacking paleros almost absolutely, dark green are members of this family, a small stemless maiden. Two fern lands only. There are new tree ferns here either for the leafy white stemmed trees of very little appearance in other parts of S. A. & Africa. At noon we reached some cultivated fields at a place called Mangossa where we made camp under some giant spreading fig trees when the road crossed a creek.
