the trees quite clearly her offspring
but it vanished before we got
near. The rain must have been
thick as this tree here and
continued thru the forest
descended toward the creek.
Here we met the apes again
& I shot an old g & a dark
grown gg before they fled.
The stomach of all 3 apes
contained only green leaf
pulp and no seeds or
berries. In the evening
I drank & watched for
squirrels near the village &
finally saw one of the
giant flying squirrel
& sailed down across an open
meadow & alight at the
base of a large tree. I shot it
in the clear light & shot
it, as it flew or failed it
looked much like a gliding
pheasant with its long tail
streaming out behind. A hunt
trapper came with a bow &
returned with 28 giant reptiles
somewhat like the species he
collected at Yanping.
