rather rare. The citron is a common fruit growing on an orange like tree. The natives eat the white fleshy part which has a sweetish taste. The central cells with juice are like lemon in taste & the thin yellow outer rind has the fragrance of lemon & is used here for flavouring puddings. Dried persimmons are a common market affair here. They are dried flat & taste far better than sweetish. The seeded fears are delicious & smell like yams on flavor but eaten raw they are not especially good. At various places with nowhere near beggars, many were begging under the guise of road- reformers & one beggar was seen picking pockets (the only incident from a perfectly level wide street) but others were cutting away the upper banks & helping travellers slightly ahead. At 5 P.M. pm I reached the village of Shee-yong, & made camp in an old field at one side.
