Temples are nearly all Buddhist confiscious temples, being quite rare. The people live in village even in wild country sowing sometimes to protection but in unenclosed towns due to their social nature. The villages are all extremely filthy, like pig-styes. The children are always dirty faced & often dressed in rags. Swamp seems never to be dryed by the villagers. The poverty & wretchedness of these villages are a mass of frogs fatterred beyond description. The natives north of 75N are much less subject to scurvy than those most east of Lake I. I should say only 2 or 3% showgotten. Sogama is quite mountainous rising to the altitude supposed for on the coast 20% showed it partially.
