(29) The night was rather warm
mosquitoes abundant. They
2D net traps caught only 1 or 2
a large spring. Somewhat
daylight it was raining, it
continued to rain in showers
all day. Soon after leaving
camp we passed several
Chumash trails situated in a
deep valley. Most of the way
lead over rolling or level
sprucened mountain tops
of plebeian. The trees
were yellow pine & fir and they
were separated by 30 yards or so
& the ground was covered
giving them a park like appearance.
The country resembled that
of San Mateo forests of Mexico
& the San Pedro Martis of Lower
California. No game animal
or birds were seen in the forest.
