Chuen - Chuen chon to Mu-i - Pai in the Valley of Taki-fur-Soke - On our way over we met with many waterfowl in the rice fields, chief Chuen chon. There were 2 varieties of geese, large white ones like the emperor goose, one of which we shot to smaller gray species. Flock of crans measured + 9 shot 2 with meshes of to 25 Savage out of a flock of 8. They are Sherman's crans, smaller than those shot on the Yangtze & with white cheeks + sides of head. From the Tah plain the person geta Sim with them, stood at distance here and there as further north across the Yangtze. Last evening at sunset these same peaks were filled a beautiful amethyst by the setting sun. After leaving the valley we entered the hill spurred from town forest over a long bundle of 200 feet to make camp at the other side near the foot of the slope near Mu-i-Pai village. The formation of this range is gray hard stone, the first we have met with and leaving the Mekong valley it's whitish which are all sandstone, shale or igneous rocks.
