31 The traps set at Yang-tsen caught Microlus irane, Microngys + Epinegys (small). We broke camp early + travelled down the ravine onto a narrow valley of rice fields with the village on one side of it. TR Pass was a low one only 9000 ft. high & the ascent gradual thru pine, oak & bamboo undergrowth. We reached the town of Chien-Chuen about 3 P.M. The town is surrounded by a rectangular wall of granite, well built & in good preservation. Our camp was pitched in front of a temple outside the wall with rice fields. Below the town about 5 miles there is a large circular lake about 4 miles in diameter. We hunted near nowhere in the late PM. A shot at 3 teal geese + one mallard. We saw many larks, gulls & blackbird's & white wryled bitterns. The night was clear & frosty with a half moon.
