16 The day was cloudy & cold
but calm. The traps set
for carnivores yielded nothing
except a babbling thrush. Two
squirrels a chipmunk were
seen amidst the raw weather.
I shot a Phasianus elegans
today in the fields at Black
water Creek & saw another at
the summit in the pine forest,
both solitary birds. The hunter
returned today with a gy g

17 We endured another cold
cloudy morning but in the late
afternoon the sun came out. The
steel traps produced nothing & were
taken up, On the mouse traps I
captured a long pointed shrew like
the species at Timberline Camp.
I shot a new species of pintuck
a small gray breasted black brested one
saw another, a large green species,
