We went to the Hotel Tervain, near the station & took rooms. An Englishman shooting here, Mr. Bennitt, a surveyor gave us much information about Yunnan which he knows very well from his surveys. Andrews had an abscess on his right arm which was much swollen so we went at about 5:30 in search of Dr. Thompson with Mr. Rilzen of the YMCA as guide. The doctor was out so we way to Carpenter's tennis court where we met Collins of the YMCA & Rough, the British Consul. (2) Visited Mr Boyle, the salt com - missioner at his office. He had just returned from Yali & giv us much information about the country. Later called on Mengl Rauden (the telegraph chief) who also knows German & its game animals. We went to Dr Thompson's cottage where we met his wife & 2 small children.
