His residence is nicely laid out
with lawns, trees & flowers.
He has a fine tennis court
& play with some Chinese

Chinese played remarkably
well while we were watching
them. The country here level

being in sight. I saw no rice
fields or terraces however, only flat
fields of pastureage or potatoes,
beans, nuts, etc. Tigers seldom
come here but 20-30 miles
inland they raid stock & people.
deported from Pak Loi at 8:30
P.M., went out at 9 on a tour
with the Her. & Capt. On the way
out there was a remarkable,
display of phosphores in
the water, The paddles dipped
set liquid silver as didth waves,
at the side of the boat & in the
wake, I have never seen
any phosphorus so far more or
brilliant. The Her. said this
was a common affair here.
