We took the Am ferry across
the bay + landed at Howlun
where we took the Canton RB,
to Hanling station. The
road skirted the the bay + ran
thru several small tunnels. Rice
fields hills bordered the track.
Clear day today but it cleared
sharpen for a short time
at Han ling were many groves
of litchi trees but no fruit has
produced this year owing to a
bettle plague, Camphortrees,
& mangos were also seen.
Flowers were abundant on
the place colias, balsams, helios
etc. The Chinese border was
only a few miles beyond the
place. The hills were high &
wild forests but green + in
places shrub covered. Only one
tiger has been heard of lately
killing one killed a few years
ago from mounted men.
at Hong Kong. Mudgie saw in
the hills and elephants. Took
tiffin at his house at Howlun where
he has a good library. Dr. Wos.
