19) Visited the Botanical Gardens. They are small but well laid out with the plant & trees all named & localities given. a fine method of showing Hong Kong native trees & bushes is followed here. The foreign trees are few, Chinese trees being chiefly shown. There were Cunninghamia or Spruce Fir, Pinus lambertii & many a unfamiliar Chinese trees & bushes. The Chinese yew Podocarpus was seen here. Several days ago we met Mr. P.W. Goldring, a lawyer in town who has visited Yunnan. He generously gave us an account of his experience & loaned me books, notes, etc. from trip. 20) Spent the morning on the mainland with Goldring at this country home at Hanting some 20 miles above Kowloon
