chief put brass patch over hole [82] in lower band. This band was put on a few days after Christmas. Captain Pickels went overland from the big gulch to middle of Petowik' Glacier. He reported feeling or hearing some shocks but saw no falling or freshly fallen bergs and thinks that the shocks were caused by strains due to heat from sun's rays. But may not the glacier be in motion even now? Went out alone around head of bay to snowdrift glacier and direct- ly back to ship - ca 5 miles. Fine walking in such beautiful weather. Norman finished his igloo, but it is bowed out in its wall and looks weak. Chief made rubber center and cut out cover for baseball and Nor- man wound and sewed it. a pretty good one.
