181 mouse traps, 189 rat traps - 7 Melomys
3 Rattus. The following were brought in by natives: 3 Melomys, 2 Rattus.
The morning tended traps and prepared specimens. The afternoon visited the mouse traps (68) to the low hill slopes on the east side of the river above the rapids. For the hill slopes are dotted in limestone rocks, low bush, and grass. It is dry, more rocky area than last trip stayed in.
Weather 6:00 - 20:00 overcast, occasional small gurgings, light rain in afternoon.
Dec.16 Balim R., Netherlands New Guinea 1600 m.
168 mouse traps, 189 rat traps - 5 Melomys,
2 Rattus (1 dead). The following were brought in by natives: 1 Melomys. The Sycoraceteris was shot by collector yesterday evening.
The morning tended traps and prepared specimens. The afternoon visited 3 of the native villages in the vicinity in search of a large pig. No refuse to sell.
Weather 6:00 - 9:00 overcast.
9:00 - 16:00 broken, low clouds, shut mountain.
16:00 - 20:00 overcast, light rain.

148 mouse traps, 189 rat traps - 2 Melomys,
1 Syc brought from native. 1 Pipistrellus shot yesterday evening.
The morning tended traps and prepared specimens. The afternoon visited several native villages in hope of purchasing a pig. We were unsuccessful with pigs but did buy a dog, the individual which I described a few days ago. Then was a big dispute among the natives and we may find it merely to sell it back to them.
