General Account about 300 m high, 800 total length, and 350 tail length. These figures were or estimates rather than actual measurements. The color was that of black and white in broad marks the latter color predominating the anterior half. The tail was filled in a slight quad cross not laced. The ears were erect and pointed. The hair moderately short and with a good sleek shiny appearance. It was a nervous beast apparently and at an approach ran any thing the garden only to be brought back by its attentiveness. At a distance of 10 ft for us it hit the man carrying it and again escaped off through the pig pens and garden. It was a nervous carrying beast. Apparently it is highly prized by the native though I do not know what purpose it serves. The following were brought in by natives: - 23 Rattas, 8 Melomy's. This afternoon was spent in a boat down the river to the low ridge on other side of the stream, a distance of about 2 kilometers. Nothing of note was seen. Netherlands New Guinea 1600m. 181 swamp traps, 189 net traps - 3 Melomy's (dried). The following were brought in by natives: 1 Melomy's, 9 Rattas. This morning tended traps and prepared specimens. This afternoon sent 189 net traps. The low rim is along the edge of the wood in a patch of second growth fruit off on the lower hill slope. Traps are set in grass and shrub above the high water mark at each side of the stream's wood. Weather: 600 - 1200 overcast 12:00 - 16:00 overcast no rain 1400 - 20.00 " rain.
