Beverdits, P. 1964 July 12 Bay Bridge Toll Plaza, Oakland Alameda Co., Calif. went out - 3 PM to a 5.6 Hija (3:50) to see what was in. Peep first seen last weekend. Stopped at the crescent and at the gun club, and scanned the salicoria with a spotting scope. Windy so that most birds sat in protected spots. Saw: 600+ 50 Western Sandpipers - 350+ 50 at crescent, remainder at Gun Club. All appeared to be in breeding plumage. 11 Dowtleties - all feeding plumage + sounded like short-billed. "tu tu": 25 Willels 6 long billed Aucler 1 Black-bellied Plover - non-breeding plumage 10 Killders 150+ (134+ at gun club) Forsters Terns, 10-26 mins with down backs, est 80% non breeding plumage or allbeaced juvenile plumag 15 Caspian Terns - 10 2 young 150 Gulls - c. 20 Calif or 10- Ruiz. bills; rest about evenly divided as west Westerns to age class, land birds: House Finch, Song Sparrow, Morning Dove, and hoggerhead Shrike. Spent only c. 1/2 hours here.
