species of Sisymbrium, Lepidium, Leum, Laxa, Epilobium, Oenothera, Bouvardia, Krynitzkia minulus, Castilleja, Verbena, Salvia, Plantago and Chenopodium are the most characteristic forms of the herbaceous flora. Prominent among the Compositae are Stevis, Achilea, Dahlia and Tagetes and besides Eupatorium and Baccharis, the shrubby flora is represented by Rubus and Symphocarpus. Prominent among the grasses are Bromus, Festica, Agrostis, Trisetia, Poa or Muehlenbergia and the ferns are represented by Asplenium, Adiantum, Cheilanthes or Woodsia. At 1100°-1200°, the forests are entirely of pines or spruce. The greater part of the herbaceous flora at this alt. is made up of Penelomon, Valeria, Cerastium, Avena, Eryn- gum, Aracacia, Cnicus, Lupinus or Steranthium. At 1300°, the vegetation consists prin- cipally of Nasturtium, Cerastium, Arenaria, Potentilla Phaelia, Castilleja Withoopermium. The pine woods beginning at 700° disappear at 13,000°, except-ing stunted forms that continue to 14000°. At 13500° the vegetation becomes scantier and the slopes more sandy and beset with masses of sharp pointed black or gray rocks. The dry ground produces species of Draba, Graphelium, Se-neio, Cnicus, Agostis, Bromus or Asplenium. Even at 14000° on the higher slopes just at the snow line there exists quite a varied vegetation with species of Draba, Sisymbrium, Graphelium, Cnicus
