RRJ 1955 8/1#8 Var at edge of track line mostly Lepturus repens ( bunch-weed grass about 8 time size of C. whitqni) Inland grass, Xigilaria sp?, Tribulus, some Baerhania, 2 species of Portulaca growing on small washes. Saw flock of 30 RT at 106 P on E side of island. Lesser Frigate or has white patch under base of wings. ?'s have sharp dividing line between white of breast & black of throat. 500+ eggs; no chicks - colony just beginning to nest. Nests built primarily on Lepturus & Portulaca, a few on ground. Nests built of Tribulus primarily & some Baerhania. Average 3" from ground. Very close to each other - average 24" apart. Greater Frigates nest exclusively in Cordia trees in center of island. Saw 2 nests at 3-4sq m or just outside of nest- could be playing! 70% nestlings, largely have scapulars & dorsal feathers well in - RTB generally nest higher than G-Frigates, 12' up to 6'. They nest separately from G. Frig. nests. RTTB nest under coral slabs, where egg is usually within shade.
