Block & Fluet RRJ 1 May 2 - May 10. Arrived Honolulu and took one week's leave. Mother arrived for vacation. Loaded ship and reviewed trip plans as usual. Visited big island and saw Hawaiian Hawk. Saw a Golden Flower in Punchbowl pull out and eat two earthworms. Feeling behavior very similar to Robins. Visited Mokuaikaua w/ mother & family saw pair of Wedgetail in burrows, no eggs or chicks. 10 May 1965. Final loading of ships at 7AM, moved to West Table at noon and loaded 3" ammo. Cleared PH at 1830. Finished packing & arranging supplies. 11 May 1965 Began bridge watch at 0730, continued until 1700. Saw several Hume's S., & few Sooty S., numerous Bulwer's P. No Cactus Finches. Most of usual species present. Lowered rubber raft at 0930. Birds were appearing regularly and several small fish.
