Winter low of 5-10, when I arrived February 26. Birds easily frightened. April 6--Four of this species standing on beach at NP at 1100 hours. This was a common occurrence before birds began to concentrate in and above NAF in preparation for breeding. April 15--One nest with 3 eggs was torn apart cause unknown--eggs regrouped by bird. Spread out again by Wirtz; regrouped and nest rebuilt by bird. June 6--First eggs hatched about May 22. Now have 27 nests. Birds becoming less nervous. Nests complex and built by both adults from grasses, tribulus, and Boerhaavia. Birds feed on needlefish (primarily) which are regurgitated by bird when approached, in preparation for flight.
