Yellow Warbler - several at Lily Lake and Pope Beach in willows. Audubon Warblers - abundant everywhere. Pileolated Warblers - very common. Courting calls and activities. McGillvray Warbler - 1 ad. male Meadowlarks Yellow-headed Blackbirds common at Pope Beach Marsh - perhaps 60-70 present. At 5 p.m., May 30, 1 was taken by Goshawk and carried across marsh, due west to forest. Other blackbirds put up terrific commotion. Redwing, Nevada Redwing - only dark red on epaulet. ? ? Brewer Blackbird Brown-headed Cowbirds Western Evening Grosbeaks - full-colored flock on lawns near boathouse. Pine Grosbeak - several ad. M and F seen feeding singly or in small groups on willow buds, as yet unopened. Willie Argante saw them feeding on Jeffrey pine cones on open ground under tree in late March with snow all around. Black-headed Grosbeak - just 1 F seen at Pope Beach on May 31. Western Tanagers Cassin Purple Finches common and singing everywhere. Also many courting, giving courting antics. Green-tailed Towhee - one in Ceanothus-Quercus thicket. Lark Sparrow - 1 ad. male seen in willows along Pope Beach. Oregon Juncos Chipping Sparrows very common on open ground.
