Heerman's Gull - saw very few going out but about 20 of some 80-90 gulls that followed our boat for many miles back were Heermann's. Of the 20, only 4 were definitely full adults. Western Gulls - some all the way out, and about 65 (60-70) followed our boat back for many miles. Of the 65, 35 were 1st-year immatures, 20were 2nd-year immature or transitions therof, and 10 were full-adults. Arctic Tern - 2 seen about 10 miles out from Golden Gate in a.m. Perched on floating piece of wood, but flushed when we approached. Circled us so we app had good view of them. Saw red bill plainly. California Murre - these winter plumaged birds were the most abundant Alcid seen on trip out. Perhaps a total of 150-175 were seen, singly or in groups of 2 or 3. Very few seen on trip back. Very choppy rough sea on way out and calm on return trip. Pigeon Guillemot - only 1 seen and in winter plumage. Marbled Murrelet - about 20 seen Ancient Murrelet - about 12 seen. Cassin's Auklet - only 2 seen on trip out, but 20 or 30 seen on return. Audubon Warbler ?? - one bird which most likely was this warbler flew around our boat about 10 miles out. Finch - one bird, which flew like a finch, came near our boat for a short while about 1 1/4 miles out this morning.
