Willow Goldfinches in fence row - 7 of them - blotched plumage Sept Aug. 25, 1947, Nighthawks calling at 645 p.m. 26 27 28 1 p.m. (dark and cloudy) 630 p.m. 430 p.m. (dark and cloudy) August 26, 1947, 5 p.m. Flights of Cackling Geese went over. 28 1 p.m. " " " " " " (about 350). August 30, 1947, 615 p.m. Western Tanager M and Imm. in trees on 15th and Harrison. September 3, 1947, 8-9 a.m. Avery Park, Corvallis, Clear and warm. Anthony's Green Heron perched in Ash tree over edge of river. Flicker on ash tree Gairdner Woodpecker in fir grove. Little Flycatchers common everywhere in the tree tops Long-tailed Jays calling Oregon Chickadees here and there Chestnut-backed Chickadees - 2 immatures calling and working a small D. Fir. Slender-billed Nuthatches Bush Tits - a flock of 7 seen. Red-breasted Nuthatches - a flock of 10-12 immatures working thru small D. Firs. California Creepers - 2 seen on tall firs. Hermit Thrush - one was seen in dense brush in the park. Russet-backed Thrush - 3 immatures feeding on Blue Elderberries. Cassin or Hutton's Vireos calling almost continually this a.m. Aucubon Warblers - high in D. Fir. Black-throated Gray Warblers - immatures in D. Fir. Pileolated Warblers in Ash and Maple trees Western Tanagers in A sh and D. Fir. Immatures Oregon Towhhes Juncos here and there. Song Sparrows September 4, 1947, 8 miles NE of Newberg, Washington Co., 1415-1500 Clear and warm. In Yel Pine DiFir, Madrone, Oak area. Vultures flying over Flickers calling from D. Fir snag. Long-tailed Jay Oregon Chickadee Bush Tits working scrub oak in small flock Seattle Wren scolding Western Bluebirds flying over Audubon Warblers Black-throated Gray Warbler immatures in with Bush Tits in Scrub Oak and Servicebery Purple Finches feeding on Madrone berries Juncos feeding on Madrone berries Chipping Sparrows here and there Song sparrow feeding on Madrone berries.
